Raz on the Mountain

bringing family and friends to Eagle nest

 Terry Rasor is a legendary singer/songwriter, and it all began over sixty years ago!  As penned by Terry, “No one is wise of our time on this rock, but the journey is well worth the trip…enjoy!!”   And that he has!!  Terry has lived a very music focused life in and around Fort Worth and through-out Texas!    He has created festivals for near 30 years with the intent of bringing like-minded individuals together who enjoy a storied tradition of music, soulful storytelling and camaraderie.  With Raz on the Mountain, what started out as an idea has turned into a highly anticipated event, with people from all walks of life planning to attend.  While some participants started off sleeping in tents, on the ground, or in the back of a pickup truck, most have now evolved into the need for hotels, cabins and campsites for recreational vehicles.

Over the years, the number of followers has grown from 150 to 1,500 attendees at three beloved gatherings:

Raz on the Braz in 1996 – 2017, which was a legendary riverside retreat in Texas;
 Raz Cruises the Caribbean 2011 – 2018, an intimate ocean-bound celebration;
 Raz in Port A 2014 – 2025, a popular coastal gathering in Port Aransas, Texas.

His newest festival, ‘RAZ ON THE MOUNTAIN’ will be held August 7 – 8, 2026, and offers a new highland experience rooted in legacy, acoustic intimacy and community spirit.  For many years Terry Rasor’s gatherings were held in Texas during the summer months, but the occasional extreme heat and the fact that the event has outgrown various locations, has encouraged him to look elsewhere; mainly the Enchanted Circle area of New Mexico drew his attention! This location has always been a destination appealing to everyone, and especially Texans! After researching many towns to evaluate how each would provide the best atmosphere, plus fit the needs and expectations of his mature respectful following, it was decided Eagle Nest would be the first choice!

 Raz on the Mountain will be a two-day festival and will include performances by Terry, as well as several other Texas and New Mexico artists. Michael Hearne, who has had his own Festival for over 20 years called the ‘Big Barn Dance’ in Taos, Matt Hillyer who fronted the legendary honky-tonk band Eleven Hundred Springs for over 20 years, Max & Heather Stalling (a Texas power duo) and Andie Kay Joyner, formerly of BlackTop Gypsy have already agreed to perform.   We envision up to 1,000 people attending this Festival.

 The first day of Raz on the Mountain will be held in the courtyard of our gracious Host's location, Laguna Vista Lodge.  This will be an intimate evening of acoustic sets, stories and mountain soul.  Saturday, the event will move to Enchanted Eagle Park where we will have performers on the main stage, (both nights will offer VIP seating). Our past gatherings have included well-known bands such as:  Leon Russell, Billy Joe Shaver, Rusty Wier, Steven Fromholz, Nitzinger, Larry Joe Taylor, Michael Hearne, and more localized songwriting friends like Tommy Alverson, Davin James, Matt Hillyer and James Hinkle to name a few.  We intend to make this event one that residents of Eagle Nest and those in the Moreno Valley, plus all of our Texas followers, will find to be a sacred, memorable experience that they will want to come to year after year.

 Terry has proudly partnered with his good friends at Primetime Entertainment, LLC, who will be putting together the multiple factors that go into making a successful event, as we believe it will be!

Michael Hearne

high road to taos

  Michael Hearne’s destiny has been tangled in wire and wood since he first laid his hands on a guitar. With a natural ear for harmony and an aptitude for picking, it wasn’t long before a young Michael was a fixture at parties and local events in his childhood hometown of Dallas. By the age of sixteen he had honed his skills on the guitar and, without a doubt in his mind about his destiny, he hit the road as a touring musician. Michael’s career over the next few decades would take him across the southwest and beyond. Calling the mountains of northern New Mexico home for many years, Michael shared his talents as a singer, songwriter, and picker in bars, listening rooms and dance halls throughout the region. In the 1980’s, he toured as a member of Michael Martin Murphey’s band, recording on Murphey’s 1982 self-titled album for Liberty Records. Hearne has penned songs for Jerry Jeff Walker and Gary P. Nunn  and his New Mexico anthem, “New Mexico Rain,” was recorded by country music legend Johnny Rodriguez as well as by his uncle and aunt, Bill and Bonnie Hearne.
 Making a name for himself in his chosen hometown of Taos, New Mexico – Michael’s signature sound on the guitar and beautifully distinctive voice became an integral part of any two-stepping event and we're excited to have him at our inaugural Raz on the Mountain!

matt hillyer

legendary honky tonk

  Listen to a Matt Hillyer album, or catch one of his shows, and you’ll hear an artist in his element, pushing a lifetime of musical influences to the limit yet always sounding authentically like himself. “I’ve always tried to mix up styles that I love,” says Hillyer, the veteran singer-songwriter whose latest record, Bright Skyline, showcases a range fine-tuned over three decades playing Texas dance halls and listening rooms. If Hillyer’s voice sounds familiar, it should. For 23 years, he fronted legendary honky-tonk band Eleven Hundred Springs, touring the world and releasing more than a dozen albums before the band ended in 2021. But, Hillyer's career predates Eleven Hundred Springs. He honed his chops in the rockabilly outfit Lone Star Trio, and even a rock band, Strap, hitting the stages of Dallas' venerable Deep Ellum neighborhood throughout the '90s. In 2014 he released his solo debut album If These Old Bones Could Talk. Eleven Hundred Springs may have set the standard for swingin’ Texas country outfits, but Hillyer always had more to offer — which Bright Skyline highlights time and again. “The whole rockabilly genre is just a huge cornerstone of my musical journey in life,” Hillyer says. “That kind of music is what brought me to the dance in the first place, and I can sometimes forget that. Sometimes I need to sit down and go, 'Hey. Let’s get back into our wheelhouse. Something snappy, something traditional, something honky-tonk.'

Nate Kipp

A Wiry Texan from Pecos

  Nate Kipp is a singer/songwriter first. He has had a long history of music in his family, growing up in the middle of five children, in a charismatic southern Pentecostal style upbringing. Born in Pecos and raised in the parched landscape, of the oil rich Permian Basin, music was an intrinsic part of the family from church to home. His mother played the accordion and had a beautiful voice she shared with the family and wrote many of her own songs. She always encouraged her children to be creative and none of that was lost on Nate. Country music was normally what was playing on the radio, especially when you have no control over the dial. Being exposed at an early age to artist like Don Williams, Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and the likes, but also to rock/pop artist like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Three Dog Night and even a little metal. Nate moved to Nashville not long after high school and began to hone his craft as a songwriter. It was a real eye opener from picking in small town garage bands to seeing some of the best writers at work. After four years of playing and singing, collaborating with the endless stream of upcoming artist and writers that make up the backbone of Music City, Nate yearned to be back home in Texas. Armed with a few skins (and scars) under his belt, he gained the confidence to go out on his own and has been performing high energy Americana style honky tonk, Texas country music for the last several years. Cody Jinks and Deryl Dodd both cut Nate's haunting tale, 'Loveletters And Cigarettes' and it became a top 5 hit! The band is based out of Dallas/Ft.Worth and continues to gain fans at a rapid clip, touring through eight states, Germany, The Netherlands and the Czech Republic. This wiry, West Texan's music is insightful, hopeful, sometimes comedic but with firm threads of truth that come shining through.
